Astrological Update: Capricorn Season 2021
No more beating around the festive bush, bbs. It’s Capricorn season.
On December 21, the sun moved from purpose-seeking Sagittarius to purpose-driven Capricorn, where it will linger until January 21. No matter what your sun sign is, this season will bring a boost of motivation to bring us into the new year, and the endurance to carry us through it.
Capricorn energy is pragmatic, organized, and determined above all else. This cardinal earth sign knows how to get down to business, in all senses of the word, like no one else. Their love for the hustle borders on fetishization, and they make it look so damn easy. But it’s not just an epic look. They would never, and I mean never, compromise their integrity anywhere along the way.
Which is why the Nirvana wand is the ultimate Capricorn tool. Hard-working, straight to the point. No nonsense, all power, pay-off, and pleasure.
Think Dolly Parton, the ultimate Cap. Hard-working, takes no shit, has you in the palm of their hand from start to finish because they know exactly how to work their environment and everyone in it to get the job done. And they work for the stardom alone. The purpose of this work is to take care of everyone else as much as themselves. They’re generous beyond measure and the first to give back to their community. Because the glitz and glamour and *power* are all great, but Capricorn knows it’s what you do with that power that counts.
With Saturn – the planet of hard work and hard lessons, time, and discipline – ruling over this earthy sign, it’s easy to sometimes mistake the Capricornian integrity for austerity. But it’s this intense drive and endurance that makes them capable of such greatness. Capricorn, represented by the sea-goat, is an adaptable beast. This mysterious creature can swim to the deepest depths and climb the highest peaks if that’s what it takes to achieve the goal before them. And it has the stamina to do both in the same day if that’s what it takes.
For many people (local restrictions permitting), this time of year is for gathering with family and loved ones. With all that catching up with people we haven’t seen in a while, it’s inevitable that we take a good hard look at the year – everything we’ve accomplished and everything we’ve yet to achieve. Where Sagittarius season gave us the freedom to explore every nook and cranny of possibility, Capricorn season wants to take all that we learned in these last weeks, months, year, and revel in it. And then, when the party's over, get right back to work, applying all that learning to our causes.
Because if nothing else, Capricorn knows how to work hard and play hard better than anyone. And on that note, here are some tips for making the most of your Capricorn season:
Set some goals (but don’t overdo it!)
It’s no wonder New Year’s resolutions fall during this season. Capricorn energy loves setting goals and going after the success of achieving them. But goal-setting and goal-achieving are two different things.
Don’t be too hard on yourself. The last two years have been especially hard. If you’ve made it this far, that’s an accomplishment in and of itself! When outlining your aspirations right now, make them gentle and small so they are easy to digest. Though the energy of this time can be very goal-oriented, this is more of a time for rest and digestion.
Make your lists now and then don’t stress about it too much if it takes some time to implement the actions items. It will serve as a nice point of reference for when you watch which seeds really start to grow in the springtime.
Do not forget to love YOU
I know I keep banging this home every month, but it’s really important! And this time of year, you’re at especially high risk of putting everyone else first and forget the importance of minding yourself.
The pitfalls at this time are the Capricornian proneness to overworking, and taking care of everyone else before you even consider yourself a priority. With all the pressures and expectations of the holiday season, it’s all too easy to fall into this trap.
Do not. fall. into this trap.
I know your heart is huge and this is the season of giving, after all. But you won’t have much to give any of your loved ones if you forget to love yourself. If you haven’t yet, sign up for the Naughty List and treat yourself to some festive freebies and fun goodies, on us.
Explore your inner Daddy
This has nothing to do with fathers and everything to do with those big Daddy™ vibes, with a capital “D”.
What is a Daddy? Like Saturn, a Daddy is a stern but fair disciplinarian, an unabashed parental figure with a deliciously harsh protective streak. Above all else, a Daddy wants to take care of you.
For some, the Daddy is a partner they aspire to have in a particular kink dynamic. For others, it’s a way to classify certain kinds of crushes on people they’re attracted to.
But deep down, we all have a little Daddy energy in us and what I am proposing here is that we tap into that. You don’t need a partner to do so. (but if you do, all the better). Be ruthless in your self-care and pursuits of pleasure this season. Buy that new vibrator and top yourself into using it even if you don’t think you’re in the mood. Book a massage for yourself to carve out an hour of time that is just yours. Try out those new restraints and really let go with your partner. Again– yes, this is the season of giving. And that giving applies to you too.
